Adventures in Wonder Trading, Part One

So, after many years, I finally managed to get my 3DS to connect to the WiFi. Being a major fan of the Pokémon series, I sought to take advatange of finally getting online to take part in game on stuff like trading and battling Pokémon online. As it turned out, I was very quickly distracted by the Wonder Trade facility, where you can stick up a Pokémon for trade, and the game matches you up with another player online completely at random, with no idea of what you’re going to get.

As I had a bunch of Lv. 1 Rotom up for trade through my efforts to breed a Shiny one, I thought, well may as well see what I can get for a box of thirty Rotom, eh?

So here we go; my first foray into documenting the randomness, and sometimes utter weirdness and humour of Wonder Trade on my copy of Pokémon Ultra Sun.

(all Wonder Trades were carried out between 10am  – 1pm GMT, 17/03/18)

  1. Rotom (Lv. 1) -> Mareep (Lv. 14) -> Salandit (Lv. 7, Male) -> Staryu (Lv. 1) -> Ledyba (Lv. 2) -> Torchic (Lv. 1)

Mainly junk from that first one, mostly first Island fodder – the male Salandit no point keeping as only females can evolve, the Staryu was obviously bred, but not a good one statwise… the Torchic was interesting as it had a bad Nature, but had the Hidden Ability, I’m gonna keep that one.

  1. Rotom (Lv. 1) -> Mankey (Lv. 16) -> Skorupi (Lv. 1)

Kept the Skorupi, as it saves me having to breed with my Drapion for one later.

  1. Rotom (Lv. 1) -> Beldum (Lv. 1)

It was a Japanese Beldum, so might be interesting for trying to breed for a Shiny one later, so I’ll keep.

  1. Rotom (Lv. 1) -> Abra (Lv. 6) -> Mudbray (Lv. 13) -> Gumshoos (Lv. 24) -> Porygon (Lv. 1)

Oh how I love Wonder Trade. Have a look at the reason why the Gumshoos really amused me… I’ve kept the Porygon as it had the Hidden Ability.

  1. Rotom (Lv. 1) -> Psyduck (Lv. 7) -> Mudbray (Lv. 32) -> Trevenant (Lv. 37) -> Gumshoos (Lv. 28) -> Klefki (Lv. 42) -> Spinda (Lv. 12) -> Pheromosa (Lv. 60)

Yeah, that was a long chain, but worth it for an Ultra Moon exclusive at the end of it, I think.

  1. Rotom (Lv. 1) -> Eevee (Lv. 1) -> Nosepass (Lv. 23) -> Wingull (Lv. 5) -> Wingull (Lv. 6) -> Riolu (Lv. 1)

Went for keeping the Riolu in the end – had a decent Nature, decent set of IVs, reasonable Egg moves, and the Hidden Ability.

  1. Rotom (Lv. 1) -> Larvesta (Lv. 1)

Decent IVs and Nature again, so I’m going to keep that one.

  1. Rotom (Lv. 1) -> Fomantis (Lv. 15) -> Torchic (Lv. 1)

Starter Pokémon tend to be useful for trading on the GTS, so that was an easy one to decide to keep.

  1. Rotom (Lv. 1) -> Raticate (Lv. 42) -> Salandit (Lv. 17, Male) -> Ledian (Lv. 20) -> Finneon (Lv. 33) -> Lillipup (Lv. 14) -> Cutiefly (Lv. 18) -> Wingull (Lv. 42) -> Snubbull (Lv. 1)

Didn’t have Snubbull in the Pokédex apparently, so that was a nice surprise.

  1. Rotom (Lv. 1) -> Oricorio (Lv. 36) -> Cobalion (lv. 100)

Well, the Cobalion is obviously hacked and Shiny, so I may as well hang onto it rather than unleash it back out.

  1. Rotom (Lv. 1) -> Cubone (Lv. 1)

Cubone has the Hidden Ability, which was nice, so that’s in the collection.

  1. Rotom (Lv. 1) -> Elgyem (Lv. 30) -> Froakie (Lv. 1)

It’s a Hidden Ability Froakie, awful Nature (Hardy), but I can breed that.

  1. Rotom (Lv. 1) -> Minccino (Lv. 1) -> Mawile (Lv. 13) -> Rowlet (Lv. 1)

I like collecting Starter Pokémon.

  1. Rotom (Lv. 1) -> Electrike (Lv. 33)

Another nice surprise Pokédex entry.

  1. Rotom (Lv. 1) -> Banette (Lv. 55) -> Dratini (Lv. 1)

Something else I’ve been trying to hunt down for the Pokédex, so that was excellent.

  1. Rotom (Lv. 1) -> Abra (Lv. 16) -> Rowlet (Lv. 1)

Hmm, my second Rowlet of the day. Decent Egg moves as well.

  1. Rotom (Lv. 1) -> Eevee (Lv. 1) -> Yungoos (Lv. 7) -> Litten (Lv. 1)

Another Hidden Ability Litten to add to the collection I have growing, with good IVs and Nature, too.

  1. Rotom (Lv. 1) -> Caterpie (Lv. 2) -> Magnemite (Lv. 1) -> Fomantis (Lv. 1) -> Swinub (Lv. 1)

Keeping the Swinub, as I’m not sure when I’ll see one of those popping up again.

  1. Rotom (Lv. 1) -> Scyther (Lv. 1) -> Gligar (Lv. 1)

It’s not native to the Gen VII games, so I’ll be keeping Gligar, might breed to unleash more later.

  1. Rotom (Lv. 1) -> Primeape (Lv. 57) -> Drilbur (Lv. 1) -> Magikarp (Lv. 1) -> Sneasel (Lv. 49) -> Absol (Lv. 1) -> Eevee (Lv. 1)

Eevee has the Hidden Ability, and a Timid Nature, so I think I’ll use that for my Eeveelution group.

  1. Rotom (Lv. 1) -> Wingull (Lv. 7) -> Shroomish (Lv. 1) -> Litten (Lv. 1)

Another Hidden Ability Litten with an Adamant Nature – not bad!

  1. Rotom (Lv. 1) -> Mawile (Lv. 1) -> Pidgey (Lv. 1)

Ah, I like Pidgey, so I’m gonna hang onto this one.

  1. Rotom (Lv. 1) -> Fomantis (Lv. 1) -> Ferroseed (Lv. 1)

Ferroseed isn’t available in Gen VII, so that’s a nice bonus.

  1. Rotom (Lv. 1) -> Pikipek (Lv. 16) -> Glalie (Lv. 53) -> Shinx (Lv. 1)

Another one unavailable in Ultra Sun/Moon, so I’m keeping hold of it.

  1. Rotom (Lv. 1) -> Magikarp (Lv. 10) -> Torchic (Lv. 1)

Another Hidden Ability Torchic, seems to be a few of those going around at the moment.

  1. Rotom (Lv. 1) -> Mudkip (Lv. 1)

I’m definitely getting a decent collection of Starter Pokémon today.

  1. Rotom (Lv. 1) -> Gastly (Lv. 23) -> Yungoos (Lv. 10) -> Snorunt (Lv. 32) -> Wimpod (Lv. 1)

Decent Nature and decent IVs (5 out of 6 perfect), which is rather pleasant.

  1. Rotom (Lv. 1) -> Magikarp (Lv. 1) -> Mareanie (Lv. 1) -> Popplio (Lv. 1)

Another one for the collection of Starter Pokémon.

  1. Rotom (Lv. 1) -> Mareanie (Lv. 1) -> Gumshoos (Lv. 57) -> Wingull (Lv. 8) -> Crabrawler (Lv. 14) -> Hariyama (Lv. 45)

Another one needed for Pokédex completion, surprisingly, so yeah, that was nice.

  1. Rotom (Lv. 1) -> Togepi (Lv. 1)

Togepi’s unavailable in Ultra Sun/Moon, so that was pretty awesome to get.

And there we have it, the work of around three hours in Wonder Trade, with a willingness to spend a bit of time trading on unwanted stuff seeing what you get. Does seem to be a bit of a theme at the moment for various Starter Pokémon (roughly 33% of the total I got here were Starter Pokémon) and a helpful for a bit of Pokédex filling.

Hmm, I wonder what I’ll get next time?
